A report by John Brown has created quite a stir lately in the history of aviation.  Brown belives that a man named Gustav Whitehead, a German immagrant, took flight above connecticut before the Wright brothers in North Caroina.  Gustav supposedly flew over 2 years before the wright brothers did.  There is one picture of the flight, but it is too blurry to make out.  The vehical he used to fly was called No. 21, probably because it was his 21st one created.  Gustav was defintely one of the first to fly, but was he the very first?  This contraversy might be a big deal, but does it really matter who flew first?  Some people say the Wright's flight was more important because the design of the plane gave ideas for future airplane models.

I find this contraversy a big deal.  I feel that if Whitehead really was the first to take flight, he needs to get more credit.  Every one has heard of the Wright Brothers but not Gustav Whitehead.  He really deserves more than nothing if he really was the first to fly.  Although, we may never know who truely was the first to take flight.
